“640th, the Inventive”
All that is know about the formerly known “Berin is that he (.. or was it a she?) came from the southwestern villages riding a Cattlebird (which to that day was only used for food resource; and proved to be a faster and quieter ride than the usual four-legged horned wooly beasts) and (for the time) an unusually shaped curved sword, which proved to be deadly at high velocities, on top of the “chicken” it rode. Berin received the title of “The Inventive” due to his/hers unusual combat tactics and tools it brought, spreading the technology of the southwestern villages to the rest of the land.

Inktober 2018-1: Spell
“The First”
The stone masked bastions were never to use any trickery or Dark Arts to pursue Justice and protect the opressed. And that was the only rule. Unfortunately that rule had to be broken so a brother could save his twin.
Egon and Emin, or “The Twins of the 5th”, as they were known for, were still young when they decided to dabble into the town’s sorcerer’s library. They knew the USE of magic was forbidden in the family, “but only to fight evil!” Egon proclaimed, “so studying about it won’t hurt anyone!” Agreed Emin.
Unfortunately, during a feud for land, in order to save a wounded brother Emin from a foe ready to put him out of misery, Egon was too far to swing a sword, so he ripped the foe’s soul from his body with a unknown but tortuous-looking grasping and flicking of his hand in the air.
The battle was won, but many had witnessed the spell being cast, some even heard deafening and unholy murmurs and whispers while bronze swords clashed. The use of the dark arts of necromancy taints black the hands of the spellcaster, sealing the fate to of the user to the sight of others. Egon was banned from ever coming back. And when the 5th perished, the mask would soon descend again from the skies to land in the face of Emin, making him the 6th of his lineage.
Meanwhile, somewhere deep into the dry Barren Lands, right after learning of the passing of the 5th, another mask started being crafted from stone and imbued with powers beyond understanding, by tainted and withering black hands.
Thus was born, from resentment and anger. The First.

Inktober 2018-1: Roasted
“Affan (the 83rd)”
A simpleton as he is, Affan never strove to be the hero his previous eighty two forefathers were. The Legendary Stone Mask his family used never descended from the skies after his father perished in battle, worrying the rest of the family if he was actually worth to bear the stone mask, or if the legend was just a tale and the lineage of heroes was to end right there.
Until one day he stove off a raider attack to a nearby village, with a single hit.
Yes. With a makeshift spear which the point was roasted and hardened by fire, in a moment of desperation (for he was just to make trade with the villagers), he hit the Raider leader in the face with a single but brutally critical throw. Since the raiders are nothing more than mindless bullies, the sight of their captain’s death was enough for them to retreat in despair.
On that same moment, the Stone Mask descended from heaven, crowning Affan as how he’d be know from that moment on, “the 83rd”.

Inktober 2018-2: Tranquil
“Sen”
Now, for the main protagonist…
Like his evil distant cousin Ëme, Sen is also the thousandth-born of a (rather long) lineage of heroes renowned of their extraordinary feats in the name of peace and justice. But unlike his predecessors, he found a way to seek justice and peace without bloodshed. After studying with the Monks of the Whisperkeep and making use of his ancestral memory to gaze into the feats of his forefathers, Sen decided to never draw his Stone Sword, instead striking his foes with it while sheathed and teaching both sides of a conflict of their wrongdoings or sometimes even helping to come up with a peaceful alternative.

Ëme is the last of a generation of fallen heroes, who gave up the path of justice through deeds of righteousness and instead followed a path of dark arts and forbidden magic a long time ago, augmenting their abilities as it consumes their body and soul. “Come try me Ser Duncan! It seems my cousin is not ripe yet!” Ser Steffon Fossoway and his younger cousin Raymun of that same house first encounter Dunk at a practice melee at Ashford meadow. Raymun has been knocked down, and his angry retort sums up the older Fossoway well; “I might not be ripe, but my cousin is rotten to the core!”
